Today, I've been digging in my stash for borders and have found some possibilities. I'd welcome your thoughts on whether any of these should be contenders or immediately put back on the shelf. I will also add a narrow border of either red or dark brown (like in the blocks) before the final border. Here are six choices. Please tell me your favorite.
(excuse the toes in the one pic)
Yesterday we stopped at a Goodwill Store and I saw this huge and heavy nine patch quilt made from many different polyester fabrics. It was only $3.00 and I put it into my cart for a brief moment. I decided a photo would be enough. Now I'm wondering if I should go back...

I like borders 1 and 4, they bring out the colours in the top.
Jeanne, I think I'd use the first one best. After that, I guess I'd look at the third one.
Oh, go back and get it, it looks like a keeper to me! Someone's granny spent some time putting some love into that one.
Not going to give advice with the borders.........I am challenged in that department!
Jeanne I think the first combination says it best. The colors in the border seem to reflect the colors in the blocks.
I would not go back to Goodwill!

Jeanne, I would use the first border. The color in the border best reflect the colors in the blocks.
And, I would not return to Goodwill!

Jeanne, I would use the first border fabric. The colors reflect the color in the blocks best.

first of all, RUN back and get that sweet granny quilt! the polyester will never wear out and it will be great for camping or whatching fireworks on the Fourth!
Second, I'm not as experienced as most, but I love (really love) the first border, all the colors are there, and it is even better when you zoom in!

I like the first one too. :)
I prefer number 6 Jeanne. It picks up the blues in the blocks.
Hope you are enjoying your birthday :-D

I like borders 1,4 and 6. I agree with Karol-ann and think they bring out the colors from the quilt center.
I think the first one is best and next best would be the last one.
I also like 1 best and 4 second best.
I think that border #1 is too much. #6 has the same feel but is less fussy. Don't go back to Goodwill.
My first choice is #4 - like the blue. My second choice is #1. I don't mind #6 also. Any of those would work if you have enough fabric.
I really don't like the green #5, I think because it looks too bright on the photo, and maybe it's not really that bright in real life??
The Goodwill quilt would qualify for Bonnie's Fungly challenge!
I like the last one the best. It brings out the blues.

I like the first border, and the last one. But, each border brings out a different color in the blocks. And, I love the nine patch quilt.
I like the first blue...
Jeanne I like 3 and 6.........
I wonder why so many people are saying don't go back for the quilt? At that price you can use it in the garden, on the beach, for picnics etc with no worries. I like the first and last borders best.
I love #1! I think it will frame the blocks the best! And it brings out the stars beautifully! My second choice would be #6... but I'd definitely go for the first one. Look forward to seeing what you decide :o)
Without a doubt OR second thought...
The first one! The tone is right. The Value is right. It is fussy enought to be a "thought about" border. (Instead of my "slapped on" boders.)Is that enough reasoning?
BTW you will "have to" mitre it...
I'm just a bit bossy at 6:45 in the morning, huh?
I like the green border because it adds excitment to it. The others blend in too much.
Don't go back to get that quilt.
There is only one choice - border #1!
Hi Jeanne, The colors in #1 are good with the blocks, but even though I really love flowers, it seems to me that they would kind of take away from the blocks. To me it needs something more geometric......... It's good to use your stash though!
#1 for my vote. I was going to say not to go back and get the poly quilt, but having read one of the comments about using it for camping etc, maybe it would be a good idea.
I like the very first one. And if you are inclined a thin solid border between would enhance it even further!
The first one is OK, but give it some breathing room between the quilt and border - a light. And it's so very sophisticated!
Same for the last one. I think it would work and is a little more friendly-like, or country looking, but it also needs a light border between the quilt and itself.
I purposely did NOT read the other comments so I'd not be influenced!
Me again - the LAST one is definitely THE one! The diagonal white lines did it for me.
Now, no matter which one you choose, I'll bet it will be perfect and I'll love it!
Do NOT go back to Goodwill - the photos is enough. 8-)
I like the last border. I like it brings out the blue and has a statement of its own without overpowering the rest of the quilt.
Wow is this what it takes to get so many comments? I say the first one most definately!
I like number 1 and 4.
I love the first fabric, but first - do you have any more of that red? I would really be tempted to border with that with a small inner border of another color that you like in the quilt. The piecing is beautiful, and I'm afraid the eye will be drawn to that floral on the border.
The poly quilt -- naw. Take your three bucks and go buy a fat quarter! LOL
Jeanne what a nice quilt. I like border oneIt really frames your quilt and pick up the brown so nice in the quilt. Good luck :-)
Hey there Jeanne
My favourite of the borders is the first one, it just seems to go nicely with the top.
*hugs*

:-)
The first would be my choice, with the last as second. I didn't really notice the green inside the top until you put the green border next to it, but I don't think that's the right green to use.
Did you go back and get the quilt?
I like the first one best.
You must have quite a stash because you've lots of choices for borders!! For me only 1 or 6 seem to 'work' with the rest of the quilt :)
#1 is my choice also, it goes nicely with the top!!
1 ...6....3... in that order but I really think I'd use 1.
Of course, I'm reading this late so you may have already decided. I like your OC!
I love the first border!
Jeanne, the first pic and the last pics "spoke to me" :) I am sure wha tever you choose - you Orange Crush will turn out great!
and what do you mean you're wondering - YES, you need to go back and buy that quilt! and save it's live. For $3 some willy nilly will grab it up and use for a use that I can't bare to think of... *gasp*
A quilt lover who can appreciate all the work and love put into it needs to be the owner :) So go buy it, give it a good washin and then sunggle up with it on the sofa. :)
Love from Texas! ~bonnie
GO BACK AND GET THAT QUILT! I just bought a Polyester double knit "fungly" (fun + ugly = FUNGLY) at goodwill yesterday and I"m thrilled with it..double knit and all.
It's perfect for draping over my porch swing or sitting on as a picnic quilt....that double knit will wear forever!
Bonnie
I like #1 the best with #6 a close second. And for $3, I would go back to the Goodwill ;-)
